That’s right, Rivian is selling its electric business delivery vehicles to you even if you’re not Jeff Bezos or Amazon. Since 2019, the manufacturer and the e-commerce giant have maintained an exclusive cooperation, beginning with Amazon’s order for 100,000 delivery trucks from the firm. Rivian is now making sales available to fleets worldwide.
There are two cargo van sizes available for fleet sales. The smaller of the two vans, the Delivery 500, has approximately 500 cubic feet of storage (487 to be precise). The rear cargo capacity is up to 2734 pounds, and the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is 9350 pounds. Compared to the smaller Delivery 500, the larger Delivery 700 van is broader and longer and offers up to 652 cubic feet of internal storage. It’s interesting to note that even though the GVWR is increased to 9500 pounds, the payload is somewhat less than that of the smaller van at 2513 pounds.
Rivian estimates that the 500 has a maximum range of 161 miles, while the 700’s bigger size and weight reduce that estimate to 153 miles. Both vans have front-wheel drive. Although Rivian hasn’t disclosed the cargo vans’ electric motor or battery specifications, we assume the public vans use the same technology as the Amazon vehicles. That indicates that the Amazon EDV vans run on Rivian’s proprietary “Enduro” electric motor and a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. We are aware that the vehicles can charge at up to 100 kW using both J1772, as well as CCS1.
