Azimut Introduces AI on Board

Azimut is developing an onboard home automation and smart boat management system with Google Cloud and Reply, a company specializing in the design and implementation of solutions based on new communication channels and digital media, to enhance the cruising experience and daily life at sea.

Google Cloud and Reply are supporting Azimut’s digital transformation, as the shipyard seeks to use technology to enhance the onboard experience and free up more time for proprietors to enjoy leisure activities.

With Google Cloud and Reply, Azimut has created a proprietary app that utilizes Google Cloud data management and analysis and speech-to-text capabilities included in its Vertex AI solution to combine boat-management and smart-home functionality for the first time, enabling yacht owners to interact with the yacht via voice commands or remote access.

The beta version installed for testing aboard the Magellano 60 regulates the entertainment, lighting, and climate systems, in addition to the appliances. It displays current information from the primary computer, enabling real-time water and fuel monitoring and facilitating the optimization of resource management. Additionally, security cameras can be installed and integrated for remote monitoring.

Google Cloud’s Country Manager for Italy, Fabio Fregi, stated, “We’re ecstatic to support Azimut on its digital transformation journey, leveraging Google Cloud’s artificial intelligence solutions to help them provide their customers with a better onboard experience and set new industry standards for innovation.”

Reply’s chief executive officer, Tatiana Rizzante, stated, “The greatest challenge was integrating the digital world with physical engineering, which is our forte. This partnership resulted in the development of an app with all implementable features, with the assistance of Google Cloud technology.

“We’re currently combining the IoT (Internet of Things) component with AI to build an advanced conversational intelligence that can be queried for information on a specific knowledge domain, such as technical manuals on board.”
