Honda has now announced that the Civic Hybrid will debut for the 2025 model year, not 2024 as previously stated. In the spring of 2024, the hybrid sedan will enter production, followed by the hybrid hatchback.
The 2025 Civic Hybrid is the next stage in Honda’s plan to hybridize its lineup, and it will be available as both a sedan and a hatchback. The company’s electrification plans include transitioning to an all-electric lineup by 2040, but increasing its hybrid offerings will bridge the gap until then.
In April of last year, we reported that Honda had introduced a hybrid version of the Civic hatchback in Europe and speculated that the vehicle would also replace the discontinued Insight sedan in the United States. We do not yet know how Honda will modify the European car’s 181-horsepower powertrain, which consists of a 2.0-liter inline-four engine and two electric motors, for the U.S. market. We can only expect that its output is closer to the 204 horsepower offered by the hybrid setup of the 2023 Accord, which is closely related.
Despite the shift in consumer interest from cars to light vehicles and SUVs, Honda continues to view sedans and hatchbacks as vital to its business.
“The market has shifted away from passenger cars, but cars still matter to Honda,” stated American Honda’s vice president of automobile sales, Mamadou Diallo. “The cars bring in younger, more multicultural buyers to the brand.”
