2024 Genesis G70 Receives a Much More Powerful Base Engine

Genesis has confirmed that the U.S.-spec 2024 G70 will receive the turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four as its standard engine. It generates 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque, and Brembo brakes are now included as standard equipment. In addition to the interior enhancements described below, there are new exterior colors—Vatna Gray and Kawah Blue—and new upholstery options—two-tone Obsidian Black and Fog Gray and Obsidian Black and Vanilla Beige. A USB-C port and rear side airbags have been incorporated.

The Genesis G70 sports sedan for the 2024 model year appears to adopt this philosophy. The Korea-market version of Genesis’ entry-level model employs the more powerful turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four as its base engine, replacing the turbo 2.0-liter unit from the previous model.

It provides 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, which are significant improvements of 48 horsepower and 51 pound-feet over the 2.0L engine. (Other Genesis models, including the GV70, G80, and GV80, already offer this engine.) It is still equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and is available with rear- or all-wheel drive. The enhanced engine remains a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 with 365 horsepower (or 368 hp if the upgraded exhaust is selected).

The Sport package for the 2.5T car on the Korean market now contains a limited-slip differential, summer tires, and Brembo brakes. Similar to the V-6 model, it receives a minor power increase, as its dual exhaust increases output to 303 horsepower. We hope Genesis will offer this configuration in the United States.

Based on what we can see of the interior of the Korean automobile, we anticipate dashboard modifications as well. The climate controls appear to transition to a touch-sensitive layout, and there is a new row of buttons just below the air vents. The G70 was most recently updated in 2022 with a larger touchscreen and a redesigned front end.

The U.S.-spec 2024 Genesis G70, which is expected to go on sale by the end of the year, will receive additional details in the near future.
