Report: Mazda CX-70 Will Arrive in the United States in 2024.

Now that Mazda has introduced the three-row CX-90 SUV, we have been awaiting the arrival of its smaller sibling. This two-row mid-size crossover, dubbed the CX-70, was initially scheduled to go on sale by the end of this year. However, Mazda’s North American CEO Tom Donnelly told Automotive News that this new model will now debut in 2024.

The inclusion of the CX-70 is part of Mazda’s strategy to increase its U.S. sales by providing SUV-hungry American consumers with more options. Soon, the CX-30 subcompact, the CX-50 and CX-5 in the compact segment, and the CX-70 and CX-90 in the midsize segment will be added to the company’s lineup.

Mazda has already stated that the CX-70 will be essentially a widebody variant of the CX-60 (pictured), an SUV that is currently available for purchase in Europe. The CX-70 will have a shorter wheelbase than the CX-90, but it will share the same longitudinal engine platform and powertrains as its larger companion. Donnelly also affirmed that the CX-70 will be available with a hybrid drivetrain, almost certainly the same system as the CX-90 PHEV, which employs a 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine. The CX-90’s turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine, which generates 280 or 340 horsepower depending on specification level, should also be installed in the CX-70.

Mazda has not provided a specific date for the CX-70’s début, but more information on the vehicle will undoubtedly be released within the next few months.
