See the New RWD Toyota Crown Sedan That’s Not Available in the United States.

With Toyota already offering the Crown sedan for sale here and planning to launch a Crown SUV—possibly dubbed Crown Signia—shortly, we’re growing more and more familiar with the Crown nameplate. There is an even larger selection of Crowns available in Japan, and Toyota has recently unveiled the most recent model, which is known as the Crown “sedan type.”

This type, a huge luxury sedan with rear-wheel drive and a conservative style, is more in keeping with the classic form of the Crown marque. The latest model has a somewhat swoopier appearance than previous Crowns, bearing a resemblance to the Toyota Mirai, which runs on hydrogen. It boasts a long wheelbase and a roomy back seat with options for sunshades and roomy rear headrests, all of which are convenient for drivers.

A 2.5-liter gasoline engine is part of the hybrid powertrain that comes standard with the Crown sedan. Unlike other Toyota hybrid vehicles, which use a planetary gearset, this one has two electric motors and a geared transmission, according to Toyota. Additionally, there is a hydrogen fuel-cell variant that looks to be comparable to the Mirai in terms of configuration; however, Toyota states that the Crown can travel more than 500 miles on a single tank of fuel.

Starting costs for hybrid and fuel-cell models in Japan range from approximately $48,000 and $55,000, respectively. Toyota has decided not to export the Crown to foreign markets, but it will provide a subscription service for the vehicle in Japan.
