The 2024 Mercedes-AMG CLE53 Coupe Debuts with Six Cylinders and Plenty of Power

As each colder time of year is trailed by spring, so it appears to be each Mercedes-Benz model will be trailed by an all the more remarkable AMG variation. Mercedes-AMG has confirmed the CLE53 AMG variant, less than a year after announcing the 2024 Mercedes-Benz CLE-class to replace the two-door C-class and E-class models.

As the numbers recommend, the CLE53 car will compromise in power between the 402-torque C43 vehicle and the striking 677 strength of the C63. Both of those models are fueled by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four with changing degrees of crossover help, however the CLE holds a six-chamber motor. With its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and 48-volt hybrid system, the CLE makes 443 horsepower at low engine speeds. Although Mercedes claims that the powertrain is capable of a 4.0-second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of 155 mph, our testing revealed that the less powerful C43 reached 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.

In comparison to other applications of the inline-six, AMG claims that it has made significant modifications to this version of the engine. New piston rings, redesigned inlet and outlet channels, and a new turbocharger optimize the combustion chambers. The super works related to an electric helper blower that can increment support strain to 22 psi and give an overboost capability to as long as 12 seconds all at once.

The Mercedes rear-biased 4Matic all-wheel drive system that decouples the front axle when it’s not needed is included in the CLE53. Standard equipment includes the same nine-speed automatic transmission found in other AMG models, but with a clutch pack instead of a torque converter. Rear-wheel steering is also available on the CLE53, and 19-inch wheels are standard; 20-inch wheels are an option.

A New Look You may have mistaken the CLE53’s rear end for that of the standard CLE-class. That is on the grounds that there aren’t numerous visual changes for the back — beyond the badging, obviously, and the more extensive back track. The spoiler lip and rear diffuser board seen here are part of an optional AMG Performance Studio package that adds trim to the front and rear fascias.

With a more aggressive hood and an AMG-style front bumper and grille that give the CLE53 a more angular appearance than the standard model, the front changes are significantly more exciting. Compared to the standard CLE coupe, the front fenders are 2.3 inches wider, and the rear fenders are a full 3.0 inches wider.

The standard coupe’s interior has the same 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 11.9-inch central display. Microfiber and MB-Tex upholstery are standard on the seats, but Nappa leather with embossed AMG crests in the front headrests is an option. The standard bucket seats are replaced by seats with more prominent bolsters as part of an optional AMG Performance Seat Package. A flat-bottomed AMG steering wheel in Nappa leather with aluminum shift paddles takes the place of the standard steering wheel.

Although we anticipate seeing the CLE53 sometime in the coming year, Mercedes has not yet specified a release date. When it finally goes on sale, we also anticipate that the price will fall somewhere between the C43 and C63’s sticker prices, most likely around $85,000.
