A teaser image released by Toyota today suggests that a new Camry will soon be unveiled. The obscured image reveals the front end of a vehicle that is unquestionably a car (rather than another crossover), and judging by the visible rear headrests, it is likely a sedan.
Gen-Next Camry
Other evidence suggests that the vehicle in issue is the next-generation Camry. Our espionage photographer spotted a heavily disguised Toyota sedan prototype undergoing testing earlier this year. While nothing has been confirmed, we anticipate that the ninth-generation Camry will have dimensions similar to the outgoing model, but will travel on Toyota’s TNGA-K platform and feature updated powertrains.
Neither today’s teaser image nor our spy photographs give us a clear idea of what the 2025 Camry will look like. However, we can discern a prominent Toyota badge on the nose, similar to the Toyota Supra, and a lighting signature reminiscent of the Toyota Prius.
A video inadvertently uploaded to Toyota’s YouTube account last month revealed what we believed to be the new Camry. The crimson automobile had side details reminiscent of other new Toyota models and facial details similar to the Prius and Toyota Crown. The video has since been removed, and a spokesperson for Toyota told Car and Driver that the depiction was used in error and was not a preview of the new Camry.
A More Powerful Hybrid Camry?
Almost certainly, the next iteration of the Toyota Camry will feature a new lineup of powertrains. There is no doubt that a hybrid configuration will be among them, but Toyota already offers quite a few options. Is it the Crown’s 236-hp all-wheel-drive system or the Toyota Highlander’s 265-hp hybrid turbo four? While the current Camry’s base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine may continue to be offered on lower trim levels, we anticipate that the 3.5-liter V-6 engine will be discontinued.
